The Story Behind the bow tie

In 2017, I had what I can only call a crazy experience-it was crazy good! At that time, I had a retail furniture business in Rockingham & things were going well. We moved to a new location, I had 4 salespeople, and I can honestly say we were kicking some goals. With great clients & the backing of the brand La-z-boy, I was encouraged by my business coach, Pauline Bright to submit for the local Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. Let's go for it! You always have the thought of wanting to do well, but also understanding that there are a lot of great businesses in the area. Oh well, here goes, I thought to myself. I bought a ticket for all my team, plus Pauline & her hubby Colin joined us. There for a good night but also quietly hoping for a little something to celebrate… here comes CRAZY GOOD! We had entered two categories, small business of the year and business person of the year. The night was rolling, & now it was time, 1st category – Small Business of the year ... BOOOM Geckoblue Interiors, oh my goodness, did I just hear that right? We had won!! I was gobsmacked, my team was ecstatic. I made my way onto the stage, tried to say something that made sense, gave thanks, & went back to my team to celebrate & get a team photo taken. 2nd category – Business Person of the Year, Ray Briene, NO WAY, is this happening? Will I wake up soon from my dream? I pinched myself, yep, that hurt, I’m awake. I kindly received my award (in total shock), off I went to get another picture, one picture sometimes is just not enough, right? Whilst having a picture with the sponsors, I heard Geckoblue Interiors over the mic, eh? Has my team gone rogue in their celebrations? Should I exit whilst I can? To my astonishment, I was ushered into the auditorium to learn we had won.. Wait for it, Business of the Year. To this day, I can’t remember what I said. It was all a bit of a blur. So, now you know the backstory to this picture, me in a suit & bow tie, my memories of that season of my life are wonderful. I am so grateful to many people; some are still in my life today.
